DC’s Teen Titans have had a rough go in the publisher’s New 52 period, but there are entertaining Teen Titans stories to be found outside of DC’s main continuity. The best current interpretation of the team can be found in the very silly, very fun TV series Teen Titans Go! and its tie-in comic, and while some may be turned off by the immaturity of the property, those who want more comedic superhero shenanigans will find plenty to enjoy from this bright, irreverent take on the genre. The Teen Titans Go! comic has done excellent work bringing the style and tone of the TV show to the page, and this preview of next week’s Teen Titans Go! #17 shows how well the creative team understands this concept and these characters.

Writer Ivan Cohen starts the story with a superhero twist on a relatable problem—Starfire has a Tamaranean flu that causes her to shoot fire out of her face when she sneezes—and uses that to lead into a fantastic mission for the team involving the procurement of a magical feather that can heal Starfire’s alien illness. Marcelo DiChiara’s animated artwork keeps humor at the forefront at all times, and there’s a youthful energy in the visuals that is perfect for this hyperactive superhero team. Colorist Jeremy Lawson’s vibrant color palette plays a big part in heightening that energy, and the creative team’s willingness to go over the top is why the Teen Titans Go! comic is such a delightful extension of the cartoon.
